Que Sera Sera

Learn to put down your expectations of the future and rest. Let go, and be like children. Be happy with little things, learn to cherish the toys you have, cos you will find that what makes you the happiest is not fame or money, but is having a carefree and careless spirit. Just like a child. I'm learning how to let go and enjoy the present. Que sera sera.

Choices in life

Do we really chart our own lives? Yes, but only within the hand you're dealt. Not all of us can be the Masters of our fate, but at least all of us can be the captain of our soul. I think it matters just as much whether one has the wisdom, tenacity and enlightenment to not give up and make the best of what he has, or find contentment in what he is given and let nature run it's course. I think both are important. We can't change who we are and we have limited energies. The right balance might be for us to try our best but also be prepared to rest in peace if it doesn't work out. The human body is not a perpetual machine, nobody can function like a lamlborgini forever . You might get away with it for a few years but there will come a time when you wished you were a Toyota picnic. Slow but mighty enough to carry the family.

I'm long past being a Lamborghini and I  long deeply to be a Toyota picnic. I guess the right time has come to finally make that move to Australia.

A leap of faith

I am about to make a decision that goes against everything I believed in about life, and truth be told I still have doubts in my head. I believed that money brings conformance and stability, and happiness is largely a function of the two. But in the past 3 years that had been anything but true. I was always chasing after a higher salary, a more glamorous job title, etc and I've never had a truly happy day.

The past 3 years were a journey of self-discovery. It took 100 miserable weekends and an abusive boss to finally make me realise that money and status  are really pointless if you are not actually living. I have been thinking and thinking, "why is life just so hard?". I think I found the answer: Life isn't hard in this part of the world, but most of us choose to live it the hard way. Our ancestors had it tough, no doubts about it. They lived in an era where even basic necessities weren't easy to come by. Their offspring were meant to reap the rewards of their labour but we went a bit too far in doing so, and in the process lost our way and sacrificed the values that made life worth living: friendship, the kampung spirit, kindness, time with our families, meaningful relationships, and the desire to contribute to the collective well-being of society.

This decision to go against everything I've identified myself with is frightening. But I think it's ultimately a decision worth taking. And God bless me.
